VARICELLA (Chickenpox) is a highly contagious viral infection characterized by a blistering rash that can cover the entire body. Complications include skin infections, pneumonia and brain swelling. Adolescents and adults are more at risk for severe disease and complications. Varicella is spread by coughing and sneezing, by direct contact with, and aerosolization of, the virus from the skin lesions of the disease. Varicella vaccine can prevent this disease. Currently, two doses of vaccine are recommended for children, adolescents, and adults.
