MUMPS is a virus that usually spreads through saliva and can infect many parts of the body, especially the parotid salivary glands. Mumps typically starts with a few days of fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, and loss of appetite, and is followed by swelling of salivary glands. MMR or MMRV vaccination is the most effective way to prevent mumps.
